Jonathan Chu, a life-long Memphian, has been a working violinist/fiddler in the music industry locally and internationally since 1999. He began his musical journey at the age of three, studying through the Suzuki Method at the then, Memphis State Suzuki String Program and then continuing his education as a performance major through the University of Memphis Rudi E Scheidt School of Music.
His journey with his the violin started with classical music but by late high school and early college a journey began into other styles like rock, Celtic music and Americana where he learned the skills of improv and riffing to create a unique, dynamic melodies with which he would utilize to support the sound of the varied artists he would work alongside.
Jonathan has performed on tour and recorded with artists such as Todd Agnew, Skillet, Kari Jobe, Big Daddy Weave, Sister Hazel, Newsong, and Mac Powell of Third Day. Currently, you can catch Jonathan on tour with the band Rend Collective.
Outside of music, Jonathan can often be found serving a coffee as a barista or photographing the world around him through his camera, two other fields of work in which he thrives. These two worlds are extension of his desire to serve others well by capturing life moments and instigating conversation through a cup of coffee because both offer the opportunity to provide the beauty of community.
Last but not least, the people that help send Jonathan off and welcome him home from the wild world of touring are his wife, Bethany and his twin daughters Lydia and Penelope who, to him, are beacons of hope and joy.
